G4S Secure Solutions (USA) Names Sergeant Douglas Dang Security Officer of the Year
JUPITER, Fla., May 26, 2017 G4S Secure Solutions (USA) announced today that Sergeant Douglas Dang of Hawaii has been named the 2016 Security Officer of the Year. Dang will be honored at the company’s North America Headquarters in June.
Dang, a 15-year G4S employee, exemplifies the G4S Values of Safety, Security and Service Excellence. He is being recognized for displaying a passion for working safely and taking great care to protect a customer’s guest from harm.
While on post at a luxury high-rise hotel, Dang responded to a call reporting that a woman was hanging from a 24th floor balcony in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. When he arrived, Dang engaged the distraught guest in conversation, calming her and encouraging her to rethink her decision. When the guest began to come back over the railing, she lost her grip. Dang quickly moved to pull her to safety, putting his own health at risk. A hotel employee eventually pulled both Dang and the guest to safety.
A few months later, after receiving the help she needed, the woman returned to thank Dang, greeting him with a lei and reading him a poem she had written titled: “For My Hero Doug.”
“The actions of Sgt. Douglas Dang display an incredible mix of preparation, compassion and bravery,” said Drew Levine, President of G4S Secure Solutions. “G4S is honored to recognize Dang’s service to our company and our client. We honor him alongside the thousands of G4S Security Officers who have dedicated themselves to our client’s safety and security.”
The G4S Security Officer of the Year is an annual award. Dang is one of 35,000 G4S Security Officers that play an essential role in the safety, security and protection of people and property. With more than 25 percent of employees who are former or current military, G4S has been named a Military Friendly Employer and has received recognition including Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Patriot Award, Pro Patria Award, Above and Beyond Award, and the Seven Seals Award.
