Glastonbury England July 2 2019
A man has died after working over the weekend at the Glastonbury Festival.
The man, who was in his 60s, was a security guard working on the site and his body was discovered in his tent at 5pm yesterday evening, police confirmed.
He worked for G4S which provided 25 security guards at the site to ensure people’s safety. He had been working on night shifts over the weekend and his firm offered their condolences to his family.
However, he had not worked in the 24 hours in the run-up to his death.
A G4S spokesman said: ‘At 5:00 pm on Sunday 30 June, one of our employees was found dead in his tent at Glastonbury Festival, where he had been working as a security officer.
‘The next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.’
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: ‘At 5pm yesterday we were made aware of the sudden death of a man in his 60s on one of the campsites at Glastonbury Festival.
‘Officers attended and are satisfied the man’s death is not suspicious. The coroner has been informed.’
By 2pm yesterday afternoon there were nearly 100 reported crimes at the site, a drop of 42 per cent compared to the last festival in 2017.
A total of 67 of the 96 offences have been thefts, compared to 90 at the Somerset site two years ago. Avon and Somerset Police said drug offences had fallen by 64 per cent, with 13 recorded this year in contrast to 36 at the last event.
The rest of the offences were described as criminal damage, public order and vehicle offences and low-level assaults. A spokesman confirmed that 16 people had been arrested.
