G4S security officers attacked during armored truck robbery
Coventry UK May 13 2018 A man has been charged and remanded in custody following an armed robbery at a bank in Coventry.
Jonathan Copson, 36, of no fixed address, was arrested on May 9 in connection with a robbery at the Fletchamstead Highway branch of Barclays on April 26 .
He was subsequently charged with robbery, aggravated theft of a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon and driving offences.
Copson appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court on Thursday May 10 and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
Police were alerted to the incident at Barclays at 11.45am on April 26 and dispatched both uniformed and plain-clothes officers to the scene.
G4S security guards were attacked outside the branch and a cash box was stolen.
The getaway car was found in Radford.
The bank was closed in the aftermath of the attack.
The area was busy with shoppers at the time and witnesses included a mum with her young children.
The owner of Costcutter in Tile Hill Lane, opposite the bank, said at the time: “My colleague was here. I only came in at 12 and saw a big police presence.
“He said he heard sirens and when he went out saw all the police cars.
“But it is a busy road and you get a lot of police cars and sirens and we would not necessarily think it was anything different.”
