Gates Mills Ohio police officer shot by wife at Painesville home before killing herself
PAINESVILLE, Ohio -Aug 16 2018– A Gates Mills police officer was shot by his wife before she took her own life at the couple’s home, Painesville police said.
Dylan Hustosky was shot twice in his left arm by his wife, Kayleigh Hustosky, Monday about 4:15 p.m. at their home in the 100 block of Cedarbrook Drive, Painesville police Chief Daniel Waterman said during a Tuesday press conference.
The couple has been married for two years and a half years, police said.
Dylan Hustosky, 27, called police after he ran away from the home. He was found across the street near the drive way of Heritage Middle School, authorities said.
Gates Mills Chief Gregg Minichello said Dylan Hustosky is assigned to the department’s patrol unit. He’s been with the police force since 2014, Minichello said.
Authorities said Dylan Hustosky’s service weapon was not used in the shooting.
No details were released on a possible motive or what type of gun was used.
Waterman said officers have not been called to the couple’s home for any domestic violence issues.
Dylan Hustosky was taken to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township before being transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center. He underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Investigators said Kayleigh Hustosky, 29, refused to communicate with police or come out of the house. Painesville police called Lake County SWAT to help bring Kayleigh Hustosky out of the home she shared with Dylan, their 3-year-old son and a dog.
The child was staying with a relative in Stow at the time of the incident. The dog was not injured in the shooting, police said.
Officers used a robot and drones to go inside the home. Kayleigh Hustosky was discovered at 7:42 p.m. upstairs in the home with a single gunshot wound, Waterman said. Her body was sent to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Authorities said the shooting remains under investigation.
