General Iron Industries security find dead body
Cook County IL November 2 2018
Authorities have identified a man whose body was found Monday at a scrap metal recycling center on Chicago’s North Side.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as 35-year-old Hugo Marcial Checo Silva. An autopsy Tuesday did not determine the cause and manner of his death, pending further investigation.
Chicago police and General Iron Industries say Silva’s body was found about 7:10 a.m. Monday at the recycling center in the 1900 block of North Clifton Avenue in the Ranch Triangle neighborhood.
Police were treating that area of the business’ property as a crime scene.
General Iron Industries said in a statement that Silva was not a company employee and was not authorized to be on the area of the property where his body was found.
General Iron Industries is a metal recycling company that sits just east of the North Branch of the Chicago River in an industrial area. Security workers for the company found the man.
“We are fully cooperating with Chicago Police in their investigation and we defer to them to provide any further information. We extend our condolences to the individual’s family,” a company statement said Monday.
