Georgia police, mall security worked together to nab 2 bad guys
SAVANNAH, GA July 5 2018
Two suspects wanted for a series of thefts and burglaries along the East Coast have been arrested by the Savannah Police Department.
Savannah Police say an officer was working an extra duty at Oglethorpe Mall last week when two men tried to shoplift over $2,000 worth of clothing from the Belk Department Store. They managed to leave the store before being arrested.
In the police report, officers say the Oglethorpe Mall Security was able to maintain a visual of both suspects, before one suspect got into a vehicle that sped from the scene, almost hitting one of the security officers. The other suspect ran down the stairwell of the department store and across the street.
After reviewing surveillance video of the incident, the officer quickly identified the duo as Ishmell Wright and Patrick Davis. The men are suspected of committing at least 11 “smash and grab” thefts at jewelry stores from Florida to North Carolina.
Additionally, Davis was arrested for shoplifting a felony amount of merchandise in June of 2014, causing him to be banned from the Oglethorpe Mall property for three years. The police report says the officer spotted Davis inside the mall in February of 2017. A warrant was issued for Davis, and he was arrested in July of 2017 for this violation.
Savannah Police say after running Wright’s credentials, he had a warrant in both Chatham County and Orange County, FL.
Davis had a warrant in Jasper County, Henry County, Mount Pleasant, Orange County, Mecklenburg County, and North Charleston.
Wright is currently serving time in the Chatham County Detention Center, Davis was transported to Henry County on previous charges.
