GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. June 28 2018 – Michelle Rucker and her husband Will Hudson never dreamed they would end up on the verge of losing their dream home. When the Gwinnett County couple moved into their Bethlehem home four years ago, the plan was to rent it monthly until they could afford to buy it.

“We pay our bills. We don’t live lavishly all we’re trying to do is keep a secure roof for our family. We’re not pleading for help. That’s not who we are, but we’re just literally at our wit’s end,” Michelle Rucker said with tears in her eyes.

The couple told FOX 5’s Portia Bruner they stayed on track making the $1,400 monthly payments until life took a turn no one expected.

“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom and I fell down and realize I’ve been shot in my back my back,” Hudson told Bruner as he recalled the day he was shot eight times. of September 1, 2016.

“Geder walks up to me and shoots me in the chest. I said, ‘Man, what are you doing? I got kids, man.’ Boom. Boom, He shoots me two more times,” Hudson said.

He was a security guard at an extended stay motel in Norcross located on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. He was making his 5 a.m. rounds on September 1, 2016 when Gwinnett Police said Xavier Geder opened fire. Geder was sentenced to 60 years with 30 to serve. Hudson made a miraculous recovery.

“I was in and out of a coma for 2 months and in the hospital for 3 months. They told me I was never going to walk again, but here I am, walking. But I can’t work because of the injuries and the shrapnel is still in my back. You can see it in the x rays and I can’t drive when I’m on my meds, so it’s like I’m stuck in a situation that I just can’t get us out of,” Hudson said from his living room.

Michelle kept working to make ends meet while they waited for workers comp and other issues to be resolved, but said they got behind on the rent in Spring. They say the owner has tried to work with them, but ultimately decided to put the home on the market this Summer.

“I’m not mad at the landlord. I’m just mad at the process. God is gonna make a way for us. After everything I’ve been through and I’m still standing, I just believe in miracles,”

The couple is raising money to pay for moving expenses and hopes to find a home with a monthly rent of $1,200 or less.
