Globe AZ Bar Shooting leaves two dead, 2 others shot
GLOBE, Ariz. November 15 2018 Authorities in eastern Arizona said Tuesday they may never fully know what motivated a gunman to open fire inside a bar, killing two people including a bouncer and wounding two others.
Investigators have found no criminal history in the background Sterling Randall Hunt, Globe Police Chief Dale Walters said.
The 22-year-old, a resident of Globe, used a 9 mm semi-automatic Glock that appeared to have been legally owned.
Police say Hunt was playing pool with a group at Jammerz Bar late Sunday when a few of them went to a back patio to smoke.
Witnesses say there were no arguments or any incidents during the game. According to investigators, Hunt left but returned momentarily and began shooting.
Responding officers found 44-year-old Cristi Licano and 22-year-old Daniel Albo dead at the scene. Ashley Sanchez and Charlene Peak, both 20, were airlifted to Phoenix hospitals. Sanchez remains in critical condition and Peak in stable condition.
A fifth victim, Scott Mills, ran for cover and narrowly avoided being struck by gunfire, Walters said.
Hunt remained in custody of San Carlos Apache Tribal Police Department on Tuesday on unrelated charges but is expected to be extradited to Gila County.
Globe police have obtained a criminal complaint asking that Hunt be charged with two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Walters said more charges are possible as the investigation moves forward.
Though the suspect was found on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, police say he is a member of the Navajo tribe.
Walters said there was no evidence that this was a racially motivated crime.
“These were actions by one disturbed suspect who acted alone,” Walters said. “It may never fully be understood.”
