Greenwich security officers police nab armed jewelry store robber
GREENWICH CT October 30, 2023 Police on Saturday arrested a 19-year-old San Francisco man who they said robbed a Greenwich Avenue jewelry store at gunpoint of $175,000 in merchandise while disguised in a wig and makeup.
The armed robbery took place shortly after 3:30 p.m. when the man entered the Tiffany & Co. at 140 Greenwich Ave. and asked to see jewelry from a store associate before displaying a gun, according to the Greenwich Police Department.
Police said the man, identified by police as Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, threatened to shoot the employees and security guard if they refused to hand over the jewelry.
After the employees cooperated, Bautista-Gallardo then fled with an estimated $175,00 in merchandise, officials said.
Police said the security officer then pursued Bautista-Gallardo and relayed his location to police dispatchers. Detectives in the area, officials said, then chased Bautista-Gallardo on foot and apprehended him near the Town Hall parking lot off Field Point Road.
Police said officers recovered the gun used in the robbery, a BB gun, and the jewelry Bautista-Gallardo allegedly took. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Bautista-Gallardo, the only suspect police believe was involved in the robbery, was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, breach of peace and four counts of threatening, police said. He is being held on $750,000 bond.
