Gresham man becomes 4th security officer shot in the head
GRESHAM, Ore. July 13 2021— The security guard working at a Gresham bar is expected to survive after he was shot in the head Saturday night.
Gresham police say a shooting was reported at Second Street Bar and Grill in Northeast Gresham and when officers arrived, they found the victim was a bouncer who had been working the front door.
He was struck in the head by a single bullet, according to authorities.
He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
His name is not being released at this time.
Detectives believe there was a fight between customers that led up to the shooting.
Officers spoke with several people during their initial response but were unable to identify any suspects.
One man who matched the description a 911 caller gave was detained nearby. However, police say he was released after detectives determined he wasn’t a suspect.

This is the fourth security officer who has been shot in the head during the past six weeks.
On June 13th, 63-year-old Jerry Smothers was shot in the head and killed while guarding a vacant hotel in Fayetteville North Carolina.
Charles Jackson Jr., 50, is recovering after being shot in the head at Phat Daddy’s restaurant in Fayetteville on April 8.
Tre Johnson was shot in the head in Washington DC and is recovering.
