Group of shoplifters arrested after threatening security agents with pepper spray
Livingston NJ Aug 2 2021 Local police also responded to the Livingston Mall on Tuesday on reports of a shoplifter threatening security with pepper spray.
According to police, a member of Macy’s security called the Livingston Police Department to report a shoplifting in progress.
The caller reported that when security attempted to stop three men and one woman who had shoplifted a large quantity of clothing and fragrances, the female suspect threatened to spray them with pepper spray.
The group then continued out of the building, got into a Nissan Rogue and left the mall via Walnut Street, according to police. However, a witness who was able to get the license plate number enabled police to broadcast a description of the vehicle to surrounding towns.
A short time later, Millburn police detectives located the vehicle on Route 78 and were able to detain all four people.
All four people taken into custody—including Alexis Jeffries, 23, Hydecarr Campbell, 21, Ibn McCray, 22, and Tevin McNiell, 21—were identified as Elizabeth residents and charged with shoplifting.
In addition to the shoplifting charges, Jeffries was also charged with robbery, conspiracy, assault and weapons offenses; Campbell was charged with robbery and conspiracy; and McNiell was charged with conspiracy.
According to police, merchandise valued at $2,212 was recovered from inside the Nissan, and all four suspects were transported to the Essex County Jail.
