Gunfire exchange in downtown East Lansing leads to attempted murder charge
EAST LANSING MI May 3 2018Â – A man who exchanged gunfire with a hookah lounge security guard last weekend in East Lansing has been charged with attempted murder.
Jarvis Lamar Mack, 28, of East Lansing, was arraigned Monday in 54B District Court on felony counts of assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm at a building and three weapons charges. He remains confined on $500,000 cash/surety bond.
The incident began early Saturday morning after Mack was not allowed entry into Six Hookah Lounge, in the 400 block of Albert Street, said East Lansing Police Lieutenant Chad Connelly.
He then drove by the business, in the 400 block of Albert Street, and fired several shots at the building. An armed security guard returned fire, Connelly said.
There were no injuries.
Police found Mack and arrested him Saturday afternoon, Connelly said. Mack has requested a court-appointed attorney, and his next court date is set for May 11.
The security guard is not being charged, Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez said.
