Philadelphia PA March 20 2023
A gunman was shot by a security officer during a shootout that also injured three women at a hookah lounge near Temple University, police said.
According to police, the incident happened before 3 a.m. on Sunday at the Hubble Bubble hookah lounge along the intersection of Diamond and North 10th Streets — near the offices for Temple’s football team.
Police said a 23-year-old man opened fire at a security guard after he was escorted out of the hookah lounge. According to law enforcement officials, the gunman, who has not yet been identified by police, pulled a firearm after being escorted outside causing a security officer to draw his weapon.
The security officer fired, shooting the gunman in the left side of his torso, according to investigators. Police said the gunman hit three female bystanders when he fired back.
Stray bullets struck a 20-year-old woman in the right arm, a 19-year-old woman in the leg and a 47-year-old woman in the arm, police said.
All three women were taken to nearby hospitals and were placed in stable condition. The 23-year-old man was listed in critical condition in a nearby hospital. He is in police custody, officials said.
The security officer was not hurt during the shooting.
Bullet holes piercing the window of the hookah lounge and spent casings could be seen strewn along the ground on Sunday morning.
