Harrison Medical Center security guard is accused of trading cigarettes, alcohol and drugs for sex
PORT ORCHARD WA March 16 2019 — A Harrison Medical Center security guard is accused of trading cigarettes, alcohol and drugs for sex with a teenage girl who was at the hospital because she was suicidal.
A Kitsap County Superior Court warrant was issued Tuesday for Dennis Silvano Mallillin, 51, charging him in Kitsap County Superior Court with two counts of commercial sexual abuse of a minor and three counts of third-degree rape of a child. He was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Two girls, 14 and 15, made allegations against him, according to court documents.
Mallillin worked as a security guard watching patients at the hospital who were suicidal, according to charging documents, and the first girl told Kitsap County sheriff’s investigators that said she met him while staying at the hospital. They exchanged phone numbers.
CHI Franciscan, the parent company for Harrison, confirmed Mallillin is a security officer for the company and his job responsibility is to provide security for staff and patients.
“The safety of our patients is our highest priority, and we took immediate action to notify the police and place the employee on unpaid leave,” said Cary Evans, vice president of communications and government affairs for the company. “Our security officers are required to undergo thorough county, state, and national background checks. This is the worst abuse of power and trust one can imagine. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement.”
The girl said over the course of knowing him, Mallillin gave her cigarettes as well as other items, like vodka and Xanax medication “and expect(ed) something in return,” according to court documents.
The first girl said the arrangement continued about once a month “over the past few years,” according to her statement, with many of the encounters occurring in the parking lot of Harrison’s Silverdale hospital.
“The foregoing indicates that (Mallillin) provided items of value to a minor as compensation for a minor having engaged in sexual conduct with him,” a detective wrote in court documents.
A second girl who ran away from foster care “about a month ago” told investigators she joined her friend, the first girl, at his house. She was told she was “safe” and that the girls would have to “do stuff to stay there,” according to court documents.
The second girl told investigators that after she arrived from foster care, the two girls had sex while Mallillin watched and attempted to participate. After three days Mallillin told them they had to leave, according to documents.
The allegations came to light Feb. 24 after the second girl’s mothers called police, saying her daughter and her friend had run away from foster care and had stayed at an adult man’s house.
Court documents say Mallillin lives near Island Lake Road but the location of the alleged crimes is at a residence off Bucklin Hill Road.
