Hastings pair arrested in Grand Island shoplifting case
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. November 10 2018 Grand Island police Wednesday arrested a pair of Hastings women who may be linked to a string of shoplifting cases.
Police arrested Jennifer Schumacher, 33, and Ashley Menard, 34, outside the Kohls store in Grand Island. A loss prevention officer at Kohl’s told police he saw the pair carry merchandise out of the store without paying. Police found the Kohl’s merchandise as well as items from another store in their car.
Police said Schumacher resisted arrest, by not leaving the car at the officer’s request and made several “furtive” movements inside the car. Police removed Schumacher from the car and placed her under arrest.
Police also said the pair had a tool which enabled them to remove the plastic security devices from the stolen merchandise. Police also found drugs and drug paraphernalia during the arrest.
Menard was arrested for shoplifting, meth possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a security device countermeasure.
Schumacher was arrested for shoplifting, meth possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing a police officer, possession of a security device counter measure and possession of amphetamines.
