Hernando woman arrested for fighting security, deputy at World Equestrian Center
Ocala FL June 4, 2022
A Citrus County woman was jailed in Marion County for allegedly fighting security guards and a deputy after she struck someone at a World Equestrian Center bar in Ocala.
Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded the night of May 25 to the equestrian center (WEC) parking lot at 1750 NW 80th Ave., where members of the center’s security team had Hernando 33-year-old Taryn Nicole Varvel detained.
According to Varvel’s arrest report, obtained Thursday, June 2, WEC security guards told deputies Varvel was asked to leave the Yellow Pony Bar for punching a guest in their face. They said Varvel also struck them as they were escorting her outside.
When a deputy ordered her to put her hands behind her back, according to her arrest report, Varvel punched him in his chest, prompting the deputy to bring her to the ground.
Varvel continued to resist for a short time before she was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car.
A pair of WEC security guards told deputies Varvel head butted one of them twice in their face while they were both escorting her outside, and she also punched the other guard in his face before deputies arrived. Medics treated the guards’ injuries on scene.
According to Varvel’s arrest report, the person Varvel allegedly struck in the bar didn’t want to prosecute her.
“There are no charges stemming from the defendant’s actions in the Yellow Pony Bar,” Varvel’s arrest report states, “however, a representative of the World Equestrian Center has asked for the defendant to be trespassed from the property.”
Before they took her to jail, deputies transported Varvel to hospital for medical clearance after she complained of head pain.
Varvel was then arrested under charges of resisting law enforcement with violence, battery of a law enforcement officer, and two counts of battery. Her total bond was set at $12,000.
June 28 was scheduled as Varvel’s arraignment in court.
