Hilton school district ends effort to arm school security
Hilton NY October 26 2018
The board of education in the Hilton Central School District is ending its consideration of having armed security officers on school grounds.
According to the district’s website, the board announced Tuesday night at its meeting that it would end the effort “at its present time,” based on the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. Casey Kosiorek.
“While there are certainly differing views as to how best to address threats of violence in our schools, everyone has the common goal of ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors to the District,” read part of the statement posted on the school district’s website.
“Moving forward, the District will work to enhance its school safety and emergency response plans, and continue its efforts to build a positive school climate that includes relationships of trust, respect, and open communication among students and staff,” the statement concluded.
The Hilton community had held several meetings this year to address the issue of armed security.
