Homeless man charged with felony for attempting to stab security officer
CHARLESTON, W. Va Jan 8 2018 A homeless man is facing a felony charge after being arrested at a Charleston hospital Sunday morning.
Court records allege that Brandon Quihuis, 25, tried to stab another man, who is a guard at the hospital, early Sunday morning.
According to multiple sources, there was a disturbance around 12:45 a.m. in the emergency room at CAMC General.
According to a spokesperson with CAMC, Quihuis came into the emergency room and asked for treatment. The incident happened while he was listed as a patient.
Police say Quihuis was in one of the emergency rooms and was going to be released. That is when police say he created a disturbance and when security showed up, pulled out a knife and tried to lunge at them.
Several guards disarmed Quihuis until police arrived, officers say.
No one was hurt.
Quihuis is charged with attempted malicious wounding. If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison.
At the time of the incident, there was a warming shelter open on the city’s west side for anyone without a warm place to spend the night.
