Hospital security and Hoboken police recapture fleeing suspect

A man who was arrested for knocking out someone during a Hoboken street fight tried to flee the hospital during treatment to escape being detained, police said
Jared Mullin, 22, of Jackson, was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction of administration of law, escape, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.
On Sunday at approximately 10:01 p.m., Police Officer Francis McCourt was approached in the area of 70 Hudson St. and was informed of an injured person lying on the ground in the area of River Street and Hudson Place.
Upon arrival, McCourt found the injured person standing in the street and he appeared dazed, unsteady on his feet, and had a large contusion on his forehead.
Later, it was reported to McCourt that the injured person was knocked unconscious prior to the officer’s arrival.
Around this time, Sgts. Edward Sellick and Nicholas Burke, along with Det. Connor Milne, Police Officers Damian Bates, Paul Quinn, James Barbro and Nicklas Valerius arrived as backup.
With their assistance, McCourt began to canvas the area and spoke with several witnesses.
Through the on scene investigation, they identified a suspect and placed him under arrest for aggravated assault. The suspect was identified as Mullin.
At the time of his, arrest he had visible signs of injuries and after being transported to police headquarters, he was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment.
While under arrest and guarded by Police Officer Daniel Grossi, Mullin attempted to escape from the hospital while in the middle of being treated. Grossi, with the help of hospital security, was able to regain control of Mullin and resecureed him in the bed.
Mullin’s initial charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of administration of law were placed on a summons and faced additional charges of with escape and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer for his actions while he was trying to flee.
These charges were placed on a warrant before Mullin was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
