Hospital Security Officer Receives Concussion in Violent Attack
February 15, 2024- A hospital security officer was viciously attacked leaving the officer with a concussion and other injuries.
A Newville man who was in the Chambersburg Hospital Behavioral Health Unit is now facing a felony charge.
Police have identified him as Justin Mitchell Miller who is now facing charges of felony aggravated assault against designated individuals and is free on an unsecured bail of $35,000.
Chambersburg PD was initially dispatched to the Hospital’s ER around 3:25pm on January 30th for a reported assault. That person being treated, CPD learned, was a security officer who had been allegedly assaulted by a behavioral health unit patient.
Officers spoke to another security officer who told them that around 1:30pm, the officer being treated and several other security officers were in the BHU for a mental health hearing for another patient.
It was at this time that Justin Miller, a patient in the BHU unrelated to the ongoing hearing, exited his room and confronted the security officer for an unknown reason. This immediately became physical, police say, as the officer tried to calm Miller down to no avail. It was at this point that Miller allegedly began punching the victim in the back of the head, sending the officer to the ground. Miller was quickly detained and sedated.
Staff in the Chambersburg Hospital ER evaluated the victim, diagnosing him with a concussion as a result of the incident.
Justin Mitchell Miller is awaiting his next court date on February 27th.
