Humboldt State University Police Will Use Unarmed Security Officer Non-Emergency Response
ARCATA, Calif. June 26 2021 The Humboldt State University Police Department has created a new, and different sort of position, to help increase campus security.
The new position will be an unarmed campus security officer that will be a part of UPD and will replace an existing position that is staffed by an HSU employee outside of UPD.
Chief Anthony Morgan says this new officer will help respond to non-urgent problems like noise complaints and vehicle lockouts.
“I knew throughout the recruitment process that the associated students had done a resolution asking for our response on campus and once I arrived on campus I engaged in both dialogues with students and faculty,” said Chief Morgan.
“That concern was shared with me again in several meetings and just so looking for a way that we could meet those expectations and find a middle ground.”
Chief Morgan plans to have the position filled by early next year.
