Hunt County TX corrections officer killed in a crash
HUNT COUNTY, Texas Feb 19 2018 — A Hunt County corrections officer was killed in a crash near Terrell on Saturday morning.
At approximately 8:42 a.m., the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, CareFlite, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to State Highway (SH) 34, approximately seven miles north of Terrell.
33-year-old Billy Attaway was traveling on SH 34 when, for yet to be determined reasons, his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler. Attaway, a Hunt County corrections officer, was pronounced deceased on scene.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
Hunt County EMS and firefighters from Quinlan and Cash were also dispatched to the crash.
“This is, without a doubt, a very dark day for the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and the family of Billy Attaway,” stated Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks. “I don’t have the words to express my grief. I am not going to speculate on the accident or the family’s wishes at this time, but I want them to know we are here for them.”
