Huntley School District 158 security acquitted of assault charge
Huntly IL October 26 2019 A former Huntley School District 158 security guard was acquitted Wednesday on a misdemeanor battery charge alleging that he pushed another guard.
Joel Bosman, 44, of the 10300 block of Ashley Street, Huntley, was arrested at Huntley High School in March after another security aide claimed Bosman pushed him during a dispute, according to police reports.
After a brief trial by judge Wednesday, McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt found Bosman not guilty. Without any witnesses or security footage, there wasn’t enough evidence to prove the altercation occurred, Bosman’s attorney, Thomas Glasgow, said.
“[The alleged victim] has clearly had an issue with Mr. Bosman for some time, according to Mr. Bosman in his testimony,” Glasgow said.
Representatives from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the verdict.
The alleged dispute between Bosman and the other security aide occurred March 6, but the reported victim didn’t notify police for several hours, Glasgow said. Charges weren’t filed until days later, the attorney added.
Huntley High School Principal Marcus Belin could not immediately be reached Thursday to comment.
Bosman now works for a different school, although Glasgow declined to say where. In the meantime, Bosman is taking steps to have the case expunged, Glasgow said.
