‘I wasn’t going to let him shoot’: Nashville bouncer stops man with a gun
Nashville, Tenn. July 28 2022 A Lower Broadway bouncer is being hailed a hero after police say he stopped a man with a gun.
Security guard Michael Kuhn says last Friday night, he was working at Lucky Bastard Saloon when he saw a scuffle starting outside.
The bar has large open windows that sit about four feet up from street level.
Michael was standing in one of these windows when he saw the fight from a birds-eye view.
“There was a fight out on the sidewalk in front of the window,” Michael said.
Nearby Metro Police stepped in to break it up, and Michael says one of the men involved scooted away, right under the window where Michael was standing.
That’s when Michael says he saw the man reach into a satchel and pull out a gun.
“For me, that was clear intent that he planned on using that on Metro PD,” Michael said.
Michael made the split-second decision to jump from the window and onto the person holding the gun.
“I assume he had no good intentions with that, and I just jumped on it from the window, held him down and yelled gun until PD came over,” he said.
Michael says the force of the drop helped knock the gun out of the man’s hands, and it slid out of his reach.
That’s exactly what Michael wanted to happen.
“I wasn’t going to let him shoot a bunch of cops in the back,” Michael said.
Michael says this instinct came naturally. He’s a veteran and served more than 20 years in the military.
“Sometimes you just see those situations, and the training just allows you to react and you just do,” he said.
His coworkers call him a hero, but Michael is staying humble.
He says any of his coworkers would have done the same in his position.
“Just doing my job, I guess,” he said.
Both Michael and the police are ok, and officers say they’re grateful for the quick-thinking bouncer who went beyond his duties to help keep them safe.
As for the suspected gunman, police arrested 19-year-old Cristopher Quintero with six counts of aggravated assault against first responders.
