Illegal El Monte marijuana dispensary raided for second time in just over a month
El Monte CA Dec 3 2017 For the second time in just over a month, El Monte police on Thursday raided the same illegal marijuana dispensary after it resumed operating, authorities said.
Thursday’s raid took place about 11 a.m. at 10755 Lower Azusa Road, Unit J, according to El Monte police Sgt. Richard Luna. The city bans all marijuana dispensaries.
Police shut down the same dispensary on Oct. 27. “Despite dispensaries being illegal within the city of El Monte, the location’s owner(s) again initiated the same criminal activity,” Luna said in a written statement.
Officers encountered and detained one employee and an armed security guard, the sergeant said.
The employee, a 29-year-old Santa Ana man, was cited on suspicion of violating the city’s marijuana dispensary ban, officials said. The security guard was promptly released.
Police seized 2.8 pounds of marijuana, 57 edible items and 87 containers of concentrated cannabis, Luna said. The seized products were valued at about $7,000.
In the October raid, police seized similar items and cited another 29-year-old Santa Ana man, who was not present during Thursday’s raid, officials said.
