Illinois mother arrested after threatening school security because son was suspended from school
DES PLAINES, IL March 13 2024— The mother of a Maine West student, who had been suspended for fighting at the school, is accused of felony threatening violence to a person at a school. Sandra Soto Hernandez, 41, of the 1800 block of Mannheim Road, was arrested last Wednesday following a nearly two-week investigation into the Feb. 23 incident.
Soto Hernandez, who was also charged with contributing to the criminal delinquency of a minor, was released after her arrest.
According to police, three juveniles had been fighting in a school bathroom at around 11 a.m. Feb. 23, and two fled the building. The school contacted the parents of the juveniles, one of whom is Soto Hernandez. Due to their actions, her child was not allowed back on school property for the remainder of the day.
Following a second disturbance at around noon, a school investigation revealed Soto Hernandez had brought her child back to the school, where the mother was confronted by the victim/security guard. While the victim was speaking with Soto Hernandez, she reportedly made multiple threats toward the security guard, which was confirmed by a witness.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the felony charge.
