Imitation guns seized after security guard reports threat on George Street
Ottawa Canada July 1 2020Â Police reviewed video security footage after a security guard reported having a gun pointed at him on George Street early Monday morning, and by afternoon officers had arrested a suspect and seized two imitation firearms.
Police were called to the disturbance at George Street near Dalhousie Street in the ByWard Market at 1:20 a.m. The officers were able to identify a suspect after watching footage from a nearby business, police said.
Patrol officers went to his Goulburn Avenue apartment and arrested two people without incident.
In the afternoon, officers executed a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and apartment, turning up the imitation guns.
A 42-year-old Ottawa man is charged with assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, careless use of a firearm, causing a disturbance, four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited and four counts of breach of probation.
He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
