Intoxicated Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detective arrested in fight with nightclub security
St Augustine FL November 26 2019 An intoxicated Flagler County Sheriff’s Office detective was arrested early Saturday for trying to start a fight with a bouncer at a St. Augustine bar and for slapping the hand of the officer who tried to detain him, authorities said.
Detective Richard Petkovsek, 37, was suspended without pay and the matter is under review by his agency to determine further personnel action, Flagler sheriff’s spokesman Shannon Martin said.
Petkovsek, a detective with the General Assignment Unit, was charged with resisting and obstructing an officer without violence, a first-degree misdemeanor, and disorderly intoxication, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to a report by St. Augustine police, an officer on patrol downtown was flagged down by the staff of The White Lion bar at 20 Cuna St., and the officer found Petkovsek in the middle of a screaming match with the bouncer.
Petkovsek was angry that a woman was allowed in the bar but he, his wife and another female were denied entry after last call and tried to pick a fight with the bouncer, police said.
When officers told Petkovsek he was being trespassed from the establishment and asked for his identification, he addressed the officer with profanity and tried to walk away, a report states.
When the officer tried to stop him, Petkovsek slapped the officer’s hand as he tried to grab him, saying “don’t touch me,” investigators said.
Officers had to wrestle Petkovsek to the ground to secure him, the report states.
