Jackson County forms new school district police force
JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. December 16 2018 A milestone was reached Thursday in Jackson County.
Members of the school district’s new police department were sworn in at Thursday’s school board meeting.
There are five officers and one police chief for the department.
They are at Jackson Alternative School, the Early Childhood Center, and Cottondale, Riverside, and Graceville elementary schools.
The search for officers started over the summer.
Officials said Thursday was a long time coming.
“We had a lot of challenges that we overcame and I can tell you that I’m very proud of those officers that got sworn in today,” Chief Harold Peterson said. “They’re definitely very dedicated and passionate about their jobs.”
The schools that don’t have a school district police officer have a law enforcement officer from either the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office or the Marianna and Graceville police departments.
