Jamaica security guard shoots man to death

A patron at Dream Weekend in Negril was shot and killed yesterday morning during a confrontation with a security guard.
Dead is 37-year-old Jean Matthiew, a businessman from Millsborough Crescent in St Andrew and Montreal, Canada.
According to the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), at about 3:15 a.m. an altercation developed between Matthiew and the security guard, and Matthiew was shot.
It is alleged that the deceased man tried to bring a female, who did not have an armband, into the VIP area, but was denied entry by the security guard. Reports are that Matthiew then pulled his gun and pointed it at the guard, who pulled his licensed firearm and hit Matthiew several times.
A video that has been circulating on social media in the aftermath of the shooting, showing two women performing CPR on Matthiew, while a police officer and a security guard stand in proximity.
“Yuh really shot him?,” one female, who was off camera, could be heard saying in the video.
Matthiew was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, two 9mm calibre pistols were reportedly seized. The police are currently investigating the matter.
However, the guard is not in custody at press time.
