Jersey City man busted with Rogaine, Nicoderm after Target robbery
Jersey City NJ Sept 14 2017 A Jersey City man arrested last month in Bayonne after allegedly robbing a pharmacy is now accused of stealing Rogaine and Nicoderm from a local Target, police say.
Hasam Shivers, 44, of Seaview Avenue was charged with robbery and criminal trespass after police say he robbed the Jersey City Target and assaulted a security guard there.
At about 10 p.m. a Target employee called Port Authority police reporting a robbery at the store, which is located . The suspect reportedly assaulted a security officer while shoplifting merchandise, Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.
Officers canvassed the area and saw the man — later identified as Shivers — carrying a garment bag. As they approached him, Shivers took off running through a Port Authority maintenance area that is off limits to the public. Shivers jumped over a wall and fell onto the roadway that leads into the Holland Tunnel, Pentangelo said.
The 44-year-old ran across two lanes of moving traffic and tried to scale a fence, but was unable to get over it. He then made for the toll booths but was intercepted by police, Pentangelo said.
Inside the bag, police found several boxes of Rogaine with an anti-theft device still intact and two bottles of Nicoderm. Shivers was taken into the custody and transported to Hudson County jail in Kearny, Pentangelo said.
The arrest came less than two weeks after Bayonne police charged him with a robbery at the North Street Rite Aid on Aug. 29. There, cops caught him with two shopping bags filled with various over the counter medications, Bayonne police said.
When a store employee tried to block his exit, Shivers struggled with the employee and eventually fled the store. The worker suffered a minor injury but refused medical attention, police said.
He was apprehended just before 6:30 p.m. at 15th Street and Broadway, cops said.
