Joliet man harassed woman, hit security guards
Joliet IL Feb 10 2019 A Joliet man was arrested twice in the same day for trying to pull away from officers who were trying to speak with him and hitting a hospital security guard, police said.
At 6:50 p.m. Thursday, officers went to the 200 block of North Ottawa Street after receiving a harassment complaint, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said in an email.
Officers determined through an investigation that a person later identified as Paul L. Emerick, 64, of Joliet, made “inappropriate comments to a resident while doing her laundry,” Botzum said.
She did not know Emerick and left, he said, but later saw Emerick and called the police. After receiving a description of Emerick, the officers located him in a stairwell and they attempted to speak with him, he said.
Botzum said Emerick refused to speak with the officers and walked away after “repeated commands to stop.” He was arrested when he allegedly tried to pull away as he was placed in custody.
Emerick was released on his own recognizance.
At about 10:52 p.m. the same say, officers went to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center after receiving a report of a disturbance caused by Emerick, Botzum said.
