Joliet man strikes hospital security guard, tries to bite nurse
JOLIET IL April 1 2018 – A Joliet man hit a hospital security guard in the face and attempted to bite a nurse several times, police said.
About 3 a.m. Wednesday, Ryan L. Johnson, 33, of the 300 block of Ruby Street entered Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center for treatment and was checked with a metal detector by a security guard, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.
When asked why Johnson was at the hospital, Gregory deferred to hospital staff. A call to a Presence Health spokesperson was not immediately returned.
Johnson allegedly struck the security guard in the face when the guard used a handheld metal detector to check him for weapons.
When Johnson was in a hospital room, a woman claimed that when she got near him, he attempted to bite her several times, police said.
Johnson was arrested and remained at the hospital under a doctor’s care until his release, Gregory said. After Johnson was charged with aggravated battery and assault, he was taken to the Will County jail.
