Judge rules to keep 18-year-old accused of killing security guard in Midtown parking garage behind bars
ATLANTA, Ga. January 24th, 2024 On Monday, a Fulton County magistrate judge ruled there was enough probable cause to keep an 18-year-old behind bars who’s accused of killing a Midtown security guard.
Marion’taye Holloman is facing murder and other charges in the August 2023 shooting death of 33-year-old Sha’Darrian Jacobs.
Jacobs’ family said he was working an overnight security shift at a parking garage on Spring Street and was on his lunch break when the gunshots rang out. Police said Jacobs was shot in the neck.
“He won’t be able to have any kids or get married. Now, he won’t have a birthday with me. He just won’t won’t. He just won’t,” Velma Jacobs, Sha’Darrian’s mom, said.
Prosecutors played surveillance video in court Monday, which they argued links Holloman to the deadly shooting.
An Atlanta homicide detective testified that after recovering the car, a Chevy Malibu, that left the shooting scene the night of Jacobs’ death, investigators used GPS logs to determine where else the vehicle went that night.
After reviewing surveillance videos from the businesses and convenience stores the Chevy Malibu went to that night, investigators determined Holloman was in several of them.
Detectives said he was wearing a white hoodie and khaki pants, the same outfit seen on a suspect from the video inside the Spring Street parking garage where the deadly shooting happened.
Holloman’s defense attorney argued that his face could not been seen on the video in the parking garage, and anyone could’ve had on similar clothing.
In the end, the judge ruled there was enough probable cause to keep Holloman behind bars. His case now heads to a grand jury, which will determine if he will be indicted.
