Kalahari Resort security officer detains shooting suspect
SANDUSKY, Ohio May 7 2021
A security officer detained a suspect in a shooting in the parking lot of the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky police reported.
Evan Jayshon McKinney, 18, of Toledo was arrested by Erie County Sheriff Deputies around 6:30 a.m. after he was detained inside by a security officer with Kalahari.
McKinney was arrested for his role in this incident and charged with attempted murder, felonious assault and a weapons charge. Deputies are still searching for a second male.
Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth says the shooting happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff Sigsworth says McKinney and others were arguing before the shots were fired. McKinney fired four shots and someone else fired back at least nine times.
“We are very grateful no one was injured,” the sheriff said. “We are continuing to investigate.”
The security officer’s quick actions probably kept others from being shot.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Erie County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible.
