Kroger security officer shoots at shoplifter who ran over his foot with a vehicle
MEMPHIS, Tenn Aug 7 2018. – Police are still piecing together a set of circumstances that led to an armed security shooting at a suspected shoplifter.
Police reported that they were called to the incident Sunday morning at a local Kroger in Cordova located at 676 N. Germantown Parkway for a report of shots fired call.
The complainant told police that a male attempted to steal meat and ran out of the store.
This is where police still have some questions as to why the shots were fired.at the suspect’s gray Chevy Malibu.
It is unclear at this time if the car was hit from that shots.
Kroger released the flowing statement concerning this incident:
A shoplifting incident occurred Sunday at the Kroger Trinity Commons Store.
As the suspect was leaving the store, a Loss Prevention Officer asked to see the receipt for the basket stacked full of meat and seafood.
The suspect said the receipt was in his car.
He led the security officer to his car and at that time, jumped in the car, hit reverse and ran over the officer’s foot.
When the loss prevention officer saw the suspect continue driving toward him, he aimed and shot the suspect’s tire to stop him.
The suspect still fled in the car.
Also, according to Memphis Police no arrests have been made at this time, and it is undetermined if the shot was fired to defend the employee from injury or from the vehicle.
However, police said that the security officer is still suffering from minor pain and bruising.
This is still an active investigation.
