Ky. officer charged with DUI, fired hours after being sworn in
LOUISVILLE, Ky. September 1 2023 — Following graduation from the department’s academy, a Louisville Metro Police officer was dismissed after he was charged with driving under the influence, WDRB reports.
Now-former officer Luis Rodriguez was charged with a DUI after he crashed into multiple parked cars around 2 a.m. on Saturday, police said.
According to an arrest report, Rodriguez informed police that he had been consuming alcohol at a bar with friends. He then admitted to being intoxicated, placed his hands behind his back and uttered “let’s go,” the arrest report states.
His blood-alcohol level registered at .189, which is over twice the legal limit, according to the report.
He was scheduled to have his first shift on Sunday, but he was immediately terminated by Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, according to a statement from police.
Rodriguez was one of 19 officers sworn in on Friday.
