LA Metro security guards attacked near Watts station; one shot at with his own gun
Los Angeles CA Oct 28 2017 Two Los Angeles Metro private contractor security guards were “overwhelmed” Thursday night by six people near the Watts Towers station, resulting in a close call when one guard was shot at with his own gun, authorities said.
“It passed through his uniform shirt,” said Kim Upton, an L.A. Metro spokeswoman. “It didn’t hit him. This is a blessing … he escaped without injury.”
The crime occurred at 10:45 p.m. near the Metro Blue Line at the 103rd Street/Watts Towers Station, Upton said.
Two Metro private contractor security guards were near the station patrolling when they were attacked by six individuals and one of the guards was knocked to the ground.
“His firearm was taken away from him by force,” Upton said. “The suspect who took the firearm then shot at the guard and ran away.”
“He didn’t hit the guard, fortunately. But it was really close.”
Lt. Ben Fernandes, watch commander for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division, said his division was investigating.
Upton added that Metro’s head of security should be able to pick up images of the suspects from security footage.
