Orange County CA May 21 2017
Two residents and two Village security officers were awarded commendations at Third Mutual’s meeting on Tuesday, May 16, for helping catch a suspected burglar in Laguna Woods on Saturday, April 29.
Sharon Scott and Anita Gosch called security after Aaron Thrasher, the man who posed as a city maintenance worker, came to their homes trying to convince them to allow him inside to work on their air conditioners.
Suspicious of Thrasher, Scott called Village security and reported the incident, followed by Gosch who called shortly after.
“We appreciate that this whole ‘See something, say something, when something looks suspicious to give us a call,’ and that’s what these two residents did on April 29,” Chief of Security Tim Moy said.
Security officers Gary Chase and Dury Cords were able to find Thrasher and detain him until Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrived.
“Dury Cords immediately recognized the individual as a suspect that the sheriff’s was looking into, in regards to previous thefts that had taken place both inside and outside of our community,” Moy said.
Scott, Chase and Cords were each given a Good Samaritan Commendation at the meeting. Gosch did not attend.
