Lake Stevens Man Dies After He Was Tased By Everett Police
EVERETT, WA Nov 18 2019— A 39-year-old Lake Stevens man died Friday after an Everett Police sergeant tased him during an altercation Thursday evening.
According to detectives with SMART, which investigates use of force incidents in Snohomish County, Lake Stevens Police were doing surveillance on the man during an appointment in Everett around 4:30 p.m.
Investigators had served a search warrant at the man’s Lake Stevens home earlier in the day, believing him to be in possession of firearms illegally.
According to SMART, Lake Stevens detectives told Everett PD that the man could be armed and dangerous.
Everett officers made a contact with him after he left his appointment on Broadway Avenue. Detectives said an altercation ensued, and an Everett police sergeant used a Taser on the man twice.
He started to run away from officers, then collapsed on Broadway Avenue.
Officers attempted lifesaving measures, and Everett Fire transported him to Providence Regional Medical Center. Investigators announced the man’s death Friday afternoon.
In a press release, SMART said four Everett police officers were involved in the altercation, along with the sergeant. He has been placed on administrative leave, pending the completion of the investigation. Police said two guns were recovered from the man.
