Las Vegas funeral home standoff ends with suspect shooting himself
LAS VEGAS NV July 11 2017– The standoff involving a mentally distressed man with a gun is over after police say he shot himself in the shoulder.
The incident began around 9:30 a.m. after a security guard approached the man who then pulled out a gun and pointed it at himself, according to Lt. Grant Roger, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
After several hours of negotiations the man ended up shooting himself. Medical responders rushed him to the hospital. He is expected to survive, Lt. Rogers added.
Police closed Eastern Avenue from Sunset to Russell during the standoff, but it is now back open.
There were about 80 people inside the Davis Funeral Home sheltering in place.
Some flights at McCarran International Airport were delayed after landing flight path was changed because negotiators were having a difficult time speaking with the man due to airplane noise, Lt. Rogers added.
