Las Vegas security guard charged with murder
LAS VEGAS NV June 21 2018
A Las Vegas security guard shot and killed a woman he was having an extra-marital affair with, according to his arrest report.
Demetrick Antonio Roberson, 42, was arrested Monday for murder with a deadly weapon.
Police said on June 7 officers responded to a condominium in the 5800 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard, near North Jones Boulevard, after a maintenance man found the body of a tenant in her unit.
The tenant, identified as Patricia Jones, was found with gunshot wounds to her head. Police said it appeared she may have been sexually assaulted before or after her death.
According to Roberson’s arrest report, the maintenance man invited Jones to the Fremont Street Experience on June 6. He said she declined and said, “my boyfriend is almost here, I will catch up with you tomorrow.”
He told police he knew Jones was in a relationship with a man that was an “ex-cop.”
Police also interviewed the maintenance man’s girlfriend who said Jones showed her a picture of her boyfriend, who she recognized to be a security guard for the Regional Transportation Center. The security guard was identified as Roberson.
Police interviewed a friend of Jones who said she had recently started a relationship with Roberson, who is married. She said on or about May 29, he became “extremely angry” at Jones because she had posted a picture of them on Facebook. The argument led to Roberson blocking her on the social media site. Jone’s friend also told police Roberson worked as a security officer for the Regional Transportation Center and that he was an “ex-cop.” On June 6, Jones also told her friend that her boyfriend was coming over. Witnesses told police on that same night they heard an argument and a single gunshot.
The report stated that police interviewed the director of security at Allied Security, who said Roberson works as a security guard and is armed with a handgun. She said he took a female, known to police as Jones, to a secured area of the RTC. She said he was formally reprimanded near the same day as the homicide for bringing her to the secured area. She said the reprimand was a terminable offense.
Police said a records check of Roberson showed he is former military police and had been convicted of munitions from the U.S. government resulting in his court-martial.
During in an interview with police, Roberson said on June 7 he drove to Jones’ apartment after he got off work at the RTC Park and Ride. He claimed he told her he did not want to have sex because he had an upset stomach and she became upset. He said he left her apartment and went home. Roberson told police the next day he tried to text her but she did not answer. Detectives told Roberson he was the only person with Jones at the time she was murdered, had a motive and the means to commit the crime. He agreed but said he did not kill her but couldn’t prove it. Police said Roberson declined a polygraph because “he was too nervous and he would fail the polygraph.” Police noted Roberson showed no emotion that his girlfriend was murdered during the interview.
Roberson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 24.
