Law enforcement officer killed in Moody County
RAPID CITY, S.D. February 4, 2024 A law enforcement officer was killed in the line of duty following a vehicle chase in Moody County Friday afternoon.
Authorities have now identified the deceased as Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok.
“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family and all those serving in the officer’s department,” South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley said in a release. “The State Division of Criminal Investigation, Highway Patrol, and local law enforcement agencies are cooperating to provide a complete and thorough investigation. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
The AG’s office did not release further details about the officer’s death, other than to say “there is no immediate threat to the public stemming from this incident. The Attorney General’s Office is continuing to work in cooperation with local prosecutors throughout this investigation.”
