Lexington hospital security officer crashes car through garage falling 3 stories
LEXINGTON, Ky. October 20 2019 Police and fire crews were on the scene Saturday morning after a security vehicle crashed through a wall and fell three stories from a parking garage.
The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. at a parking deck for St. Joseph Hospital along Waller Avenue.
Police said a security guard lost control of his vehicle and crashed through a retention wall, falling three stories.
Authorities said the security guard was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police attributed that to the driver wearing a seat belt.
Part of the wall that was hit was hanging off the building.
Hospital officials said the garage was being evacuated as a precaution while crews remove the vehicle from the scene.
There is no word from police on the cause of the accident.
“The fire department has assessed the structural integrity of the building and determined it is intact,” spokeswoman Mary Branham said in a statement.
“When the cleanup is completed, sections of the garage not affected by the accident will be reopened.”
