Lexington Shoplifting Blitz Results In More Than 50 Charges
Lexington KY December 26 2019 More than 50 people face criminal charges following a shoplifting blitz at several stores along Nicholasville Road in Lexington.
Despite the thefts, a collaboration of law enforcement and businesses working to reduce theft losses says it’s possible some thieves are being deterred from stealing.
Gene Haynes with the Kentucky Organized Retail Crime Association noted one individual had gone into a fitting room and layered $500 worth of clothing underneath his clothes.
“He made it to the door. He saw two people who he thought were police. He couldn’t say that they were because they were in plain clothes. He got suspicious. He turned around, went back upstairs at the store he was at, took off all the clothing, and threw it down, put his regular clothes on and then walked out the door,” said Haynes.
Haynes said similar shoplifting blitz operations have been conducted in Louisville, Richmond, and Elizabethtown.
