Special Agent Robert Mayer died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Special Agent Mayer had served with the United Customs and Border Protection – Office of Professional Responsibility for two yeas and was assigned to the Del Rio Sector. He had previously served with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations for 17 years and the Val Verde County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office for nine years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and mother.
In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.
