Lowell MA school melee injures security officer, 2 staff members
LOWELL MA Sept 28 2021— Two students at the LeBlanc Therapeutic Day School are facing assault charges following a melee at the school last Thursday during which three staff members and a private security guard were slightly injured.
According to school officials, at about 11 a.m., a student became irritated, left his classroom and in the hallway began yelling and kicking doors.
The first school staffer to assist was kicked in the groin.
Within seconds, the private security officer attempted to subdue the students and was elbowed in the ribs.
The first school staffer to assist was kicked in the groin. A second staffer was shoved from behind and suffered a back injury. He was transported from the scene in an ambulance.
A third staffer was kicked in the head, although Myers emphasized it wasn’t serious.
The staffer was checked by medical personnel on the scene who determined he was not concussed.
A school clerk called 9-1-1 for assistance. Six Lowell Police cruisers and two ambulances arrived.
“The student who pushed the teacher in the back stopped what he was doing and calmed down as soon as he was told the police were called,” Myers said. “The other student was still out of control, was handcuffed, and taken outside. Once outside he calmed down.”
Myers said the students were not arrested but will be summonsed into Lowell Juvenile Court. Following the incident their parents were called and they were removed from school. They each served a one-day suspension on Friday and returned to school on Monday.
