Madera Unified School District placed security guard on leave
Madera CA Sept 2 2017 The Madera Unified School District placed a security guard on leave Tuesday amid allegations of inappropriate contact between the employee and students. Desiree Genera is the mother of a freshman at Madera High School North Campus, she says she was notified by the school that an employee exchanged questionable messages with her daughter on Snapchat. An investigation is underway to verify these allegations and what happened.
“He would message them to get passes so they could come and hangout. He would hangout by the pool with them. I guess the security officer was like there are too many teachers over there. I can’t go over there right now,” said Genera.
Genera is calling that type of behavior between a school employee and a student unethical. She claims he sent her daughter selfies which she interpreted as a means of flattery. “He’s suavecito. He has charm and he is a decent looking guy,” said Genera. She also says something like this may seem harmless and that teens are impressionable. “I can see how he is laying it thick on them but ultimately you are talking about a school official and a minor. This is his job,” said Genera.
The district has policies for employees and asks for them to use good judgment when interacting with students. In this situation Genera feels there should be more guidelines to emphasize interaction on social media.
“I just feel that the school protocol needs to be changed because no matter what these kids are going to have social media with or without your permission. Even if the parents think they have a great relationship with their kids. But little do you know, they have a Snapchat undercover. You can educate them all you want not get lured in by a predator, but when a predator is laying it on you really thick. It’s nice and fancy,” said Genera.
Genera says she has yet to see all of the messages exchanged between the school security guard and her daughter. She says she’ll be reaching out to Snapchat with her attorney to see records of pictures and messages sent.
