Mall security, police nab 2 persons with bogus money
NORTH BEND, Wash. March 3, 2022— Two people were arrested in North Bend on Saturday after making small purchases with fake $100 bills to get real money in change, according to the Snoqualmie Police Department.
On Feb. 26, North Bend officers responded to the North Bend outlet mall for a fraud-in-progress call.
According to the report, two people were going store to store and attempting to make small purchases with fake $100 bills to get actual money in change.
Officers, with help from the mall security team, located the couple’s Kia Sorento with a missing back window.
After officers boxed the car in, the couple barricaded themselves inside by rolling up the windows and yelling at the officers.
The couple were told they were under arrest for forgery, and they were told to get out of the car.
After the female driver was identified, the male passenger was identified as a man wanted for active felony warrants for a Department of Corrections escape, unlawful possession of a firearm, and a U.S. Marshals Office Hold for dangerous drugs.
The man also had five other misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.
After nearly 30 minutes, the couple got out of the car and were arrested.
The man had more fake $100 bills on him, along with possible methamphetamine and brass knuckles.
After the couple claimed they swallowed heroin and were cleared at a hospital, the woman was booked on felony charges and the man was booked on his Department of Corrections warrant.
Their car was impounded and awaiting a search warrant.
