Man accused of fraud operation at Tulsa hotel nabbed by security
TULSA, Okla. December 17 2019 — A hotel security guard helped stop an active fraud operation, police said.
Police said the security officer went to check on Anthony Scroggins at an east Tulsa hotel after he didn’t pay for his room.
When the security guard got there, he said he saw printers, checks, IDs and more in plain view.
The security officer told Scroggins he was calling police, and Scroggins tried to make a run for it but was caught by the security guard, police said.
Fraud detectives searched the room and said they found a printer, card stock for printing checks, fake IDs, credit cards and other fraud paraphernalia.
The owner of the Oyo hotel near Skelly and Yale said he bought the hotel a few months ago and is actively working to change the image of the area.
He said he makes sure all guests are registered with the hotel and that employees are being vigilant against crime. The security guard’s discovery is an example of the proactive steps that hotel employees have taken to clean it up.
